sing what we have and finding multiple uses for the equipment on board the R/V Martin Bergmann while using the vessel itself as a key platform to deploy a wide array of equipment is essential to maximizing our time at sea.
The Vessel at 64′ in length is small yet mighty with its capability. An outstanding, multi-talented ship crew work in 6 hour shifts around the clock and through the twilight of the midnight sun making everything on the Bergmann run smoothly.

Eddy Carmack’s drawing depicts all the instrumentation on the Bergmann making for a busy ship that is geared for success. We essentially “scienced up” our mighty little ship in every creative way we could think of. Using every usable space and side of the Bergmann to deploy multiple equipment simultaneously and also during transit to key marine hotspots with instruments recording while underway. The little ship that did!
Our creative science team partnered with a dynamic crew creates a partnership that mirrors what you would see on a mission to Mars, and it is quite something to be part of such an accomplished group exploring an inspiring marine and majestic landscape. Bathurst Inlet is truly one of my favourite places to explore in our Arctic and I appreciate doing so in great company.
