Photo of the Week

Our photo of the week was taken by Matthew Gilbert, a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia, in Byron Bay, Nunavut. It shows Kevin Kanayok, Matt’s seasoned field hand, releasing an Arctic char they caught while conducting field research on how the fish will respond to rising temperatures as a result of climate change. Rising temperatures further south have lead to renowned declines in Pacific sockeye salmon, a relative of the char, and the concern is that char will also have difficulty adapting to a changing climate.
